This is a common myth. Fish have shown the ability to swim through mazes, identify different colors, recognize types of music and even tell time. Fish would not be able to survive in nature if they did not have a capable memory. The R2 Fish School kit proves that fish are a whole lot smarter than people think and shatters the myth of limited goldfish memory.
Can my fish learn tricks?
Yes absolutely. Fish can be trained using positive reinforcement food reward training techniques. The R2 Fish School kit shows you step-by-step how to shape your fish’s behavior. The tricks build upon each other, the first step is teaching the fish to associate the feeding wand with its food reward (this typically happens very quickly). Once you have reached this step, the R2 Fish School explains how to teach your fish successively more challenging tricks. The R2 Fish School kit is designed to work with any fish 1-6 inches in length. Cichlids, Moor Goldfish, Oranda Goldfish, Bettas, Fancy Goldfish are amongst the tropical freshwater fish that have been successfully trained.
What size tank do you recommend for training?
The kit includes a small weighted base for any size tank or bowl. This base will allow you to do all of the beginner tricks in any size aquarium fish tanks. For the more advanced sport tricks we recommend a standard rectangular 10 gallon fish tank or larger tank (this will allow you to train your fish to complete all of the tricks in the kit).
What do I do if I have a crowded tank, but just want to train one of my fish?
The training tools are only placed in the tank during your short training sessions. We recommend using a standard inexpensive tank divider to isolate the specific fish you are training during your training session. A tank divider can be purchased at any aquarium store.
How long does it take to teach a fish tricks?
On average it takes 2, 15 minute sessions a day. The tricks build upon each other and take about a week per trick for your fish to learn and complete. With steady training your fish should be able to complete all the tricks in the kit in a couple months.
Should my fish learn cool tricks?
Definitely, giving fish and other small pets a natural habitat and interesting things to do is called enrichment. Scientists say animals (including fish) live longer, healthier lives, and experience less stress, when given enrichment. In other words - They are happier! If you are looking for a unique science fair project fish training might just be for you!
Is it difficult to do?
It really is easy and a lot of fun for your whole family! It is amazing to see your fish learn and complete successively cooler tricks. When it comes to unique gift ideas or unusual birthday gifts, nothing tops the R2 Fish School kit!
